when i connect my phone to itunes, it shows an upgrade message. Should i upgrade with that?? are there any risks involved? cos i havent bought my fone from usa and im not using it there??
Yes, you should upgrade through iTunes. As far as any risks involved, it’s designed to work with your iPhone. If you’ve modified it any way, the upgrade may not work as expected. As far as using it abroad, I’m not sure. Check with the people who are providing your phone service. I can only vouch for non-jailbroken phones running 1.1.2 or 1.1.3 on AT&T in the US. YMMV.
I have an iPhone ver 1.0.2. I followed all the steps correctly but my phone does not show a custom ringtone option in the ringtones. I enabled the sync in itunes and i did everything correctly. Does the phone have to be jailbroken? cos mine is not. Could that be a problem?
Does not have to be jailbroken. In fact, I’m not sure this method will work on a jailbroken phone. I can tell you it works with iPhone 1.1.3 and 1.1.2. Don’t know about 1.0.2. You should upgrade anyway, 1.1.3 has some cool new features like locate and hybrid maps on GoogleMaps as well as the ability to create webclips.
There have been a couple people with this problem. The ringtone must be less than 30 sec, I usually cut mine to 25 sec. If it appears in your iTunes under Ringtones, it should sync to your iPhone. Also make sure you don’t have manual management of music turned on and that the ringtones are set to sync (under the Ringtones tab of your iPhone under iTunes)
I figured that out you will have to go to any folder or any explorer, click tools > folder options > ‘view’ tab > uncheck ‘hide extensions for known file types’ > OK… You should be able to see the .xxx extensions on every file in your computer including that m4a you have converted. Then change the m4a to m4r. This should work pretty well.
Another thing is, song duration must not exceed 30 seconds. I tried, did not come out under ringtones in itunes. There are other similar tutorials in YouTube u can go check them out! Hope this help alot of people out there
